1. Introduction

Egypt Unlocked ("we", "the app") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your data when you use the app. By using the app, you acknowledge that you have read this policy. Where required, we will request your explicit permission separately, such as for location access or notifications.

2. Data We Collect

• Account data: When you register or sign in with Apple, Google, or email, we receive your email and the name or username you choose.
• Nationality: We ask for your nationality to personalize content, improve your experience, and for general statistics (understanding visitors to Egypt). It is used in aggregate and never sold.
• Location data: With your explicit in-use permission only, we use your location to show nearby places. You may decline or withdraw consent anytime without losing other features.
• Notifications: With your consent, we send notifications about events and updates. You can disable them anytime in device settings.
• Contributions (reviews): If you add a place review, we store it to display in the app.
• Saved places & trip plans: We store your preferences and trips to personalize your experience and run the points system.
• Usage data: General technical info (device type, OS) to improve performance.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To operate the app and show places, events, and content.
• To save your preferences and trip plans.
• To run the points and rewards system.
• To improve the app and fix issues.
• To contact you about support or important updates.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited data with trusted service providers solely to operate the app:

• Supabase — database hosting and authentication.
• Google Places — place data and images (subject to Google's privacy policy).
• Apple / Google — sign-in and distribution.

5. Place Images & Third-Party Rights

Some images come from Google Places and are shown with the photographer's name as required by Google. These images belong to their owners.

6. Your Rights

Under Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law (151/2020), you have the right to:

• Access or correct your data.
• Request deletion of your account and data (available in-app or by contacting us).
• Withdraw location consent at any time via device settings.

7. Location & Notifications

We use your location only after your explicit permission, to show nearby places and improve your discovery experience. We do not use your location in the background, and we do not keep a permanent log of your movements. You can turn off location permission anytime in your device settings.

When you enable notifications, we may store a push token for your device to send alerts and important updates. You can turn off notifications anytime in your device settings.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account data, favorites, trip plans, and contributions while your account is active or as long as needed to operate the app. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize the data linked to you, unless we are required to retain some of it for a specific period for legal, security, or abuse-prevention reasons.

9. Account Deletion

You can request deletion of your account and data from within the app via: Profile → Safety Center → Delete Account.

Upon confirmation, we will delete or anonymize the account and its associated data, unless we are required to retain some of it for legal or security reasons.

10. Data Transfer Outside Egypt

Some data may be processed or stored on servers outside Egypt through the service providers we use to operate the app, such as hosting, authentication, and place-data services. We use these services only to the extent necessary to operate and improve the app.

11. Data Security

We use reasonable technical measures (encryption, restricted access) to protect your data. No system is 100% secure, but we make reasonable efforts to protect it.

12. Children

The app is not directed to children. If you are under the legal age required in your country, you should use the app only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect children's data.

13. Changes

We may update this policy and will post changes here with an updated date.
